Dr. Cordelia Fine is a professor, psychologist, and writer. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Experimental Psychology from Oxford University, an MPhil in Criminology from Cambridge University, and a PhD in Psychology from University College London. She presently holds a professorship at the University of Melbourne.
Fine’s four books—A Mind of Its Own (2006), The Britannica Guide to the Brain (2008), Delusions of Gender (2010), and Testosterone Rex (2016)—reflect her interest in the human brain, and particularly its fallibility. A Mind of Its Own, a study of the ways in which the mind distorts reality, lays a clear foundation for the examination of implicit bias in Delusions of Gender. Fine’s ongoing work has been to question cultural assumptions about gender and the systems we put in place (consciously or not) to uphold those assumptions. She’s credited with coining the term “neurosexism.”
Fine’s honors and awards include the Edinburgh Medal and the Royal Society Science Book Prize.
