Sawyer and Enzo listen to intense, ghostly crying from the room above theirs. Sawyer asks Enzo if he believes in the afterlife, and he tells her he does not believe in the Christian ideology with which he was raised. Sawyer asks about his childhood, and Enzo tells her his father died before he was born in an accident at sea. He was a fisherman, and Enzo credits him with his love of the ocean. The nuns did not like Enzo because he was different and rebellious, but Sister Caterina helped him move to Australia when he turned 18, after which Enzo found happiness in college and his research. Enzo asks what made Sawyer happy as a child, and Sawyer says she and Kevin had a lot of fun before Kevin started abusing her. She adds that her parents’ death was a relief, as they were always disappointed that she could not measure up to Kevin’s perfection. Sawyer apologizes for ruining Enzo’s life, and Enzo suggests that they try to learn to move on from their trauma together. The crying above them stops, and Enzo laughs, saying Sawyer brought chaos into his life.
